Dubai
The Emirate of Dubai, located north-east of Abu Dhabi, is the most populous and second largest emirate in the United Arab Emirates. The city of Dubai is often referred to as Dubai City to differentiate it from the emirate. Known as the Venice of the Gulf, because of its increasingly development of the tourist trade, Dubai is distinct from other members of the UAE in that revenues from oil account for only 6% of its GDP. With enormous construction and development in various industries, Dubai has attracted world attention through innovative real estate projects, sports events, conferences and Guinness records. There are records of the town of Dubai that go back to 1799. It was the residence of the British political agent for the former Trucial States from 1954 until 1971.
