Sudarsan Pattnaik

Born to a middle class family of staunch Hindu culture in the land of Lord Jagannath, Puri, Orissa, Sudarsan Pattnaik spent his childhood in the lap of mother earth, playing in the sands of the Golden beach of Puri, making sculptures of gods and goddesses. With sand art not being considered as a professional form of art in India and the limitation of not having a guru, he pursued in his endeavor with an unseen vigor and an indomitable will to master the art. He slowly but steadily raised sand art to its current elevated status without compromising on its purity, earning accolades at home and abroad with his imagination and creativity. Sudarsan took up the challenge to popularize sand art as a professional art form and has exhibited his sand art in his homeland and all over the world.

His ultimate objective is to change people's perception that sand art is a temporary form of art. He hopes that by demonstrating the art form and holding workshops and training, he will create awareness and enthusiasm for his art. Sudarsan also captures national and international events in his art as well as social issues to raise awareness.
